NUTRITION
What is METABOLIC NUTRITION?
By removing carbohydrates and focussing on the natural and healthy proteins and fats that our bodies have evolved to survive and thrive on, we reduce blood glucose and insulin which in turn:
Who WIll Benefit?
EVERYONE!
Metabolic nutrition supports optimum health from cradle to grave.
It is proven to help people achieve optimum weight and reverse many chronic health conditions as well as supporting sports and exercise from recreational to elite
How does it WORK?
Metabolic nutrition is a low carbohdrate, high fat (LCHF) nutrition approach that focuses on:
THE SCIENCE
Many nutrition programmes focus on calorie counting and specific macros. This approach focusses on two main principles:
1 - The human body in a healthy state is supremely intelligent and capable of highly tuned homeostasis. A state that directs behaviours and functions to tightly regulate appetite, energy expenditure and body set weight
2 - The human body has evolved to survive and thrive on protein and healthy fat. Carbohydrates are neither essential nor healthy and in fact sabotage brain function and homeostasis via increased blood glucose and insulin to take us on a destructive journey of ill health and weight gain. Reducing carbohydrates and the body's insulin response reverses the damage and brings the body back to health
APPROACH
EVOLVE
This is the rest of your life!
Now you can have fun experimenting! You will be in tune with your body's needs. You will be feeling energised and healthy in body and mind.
Your body's inner wisdom will be at the driving seat, perhaps for the first time ever.
Your appestat will be functioning properly and receiving all the necessary information from your body to regulate your appetite
Your body set weight will be optimised and fine tuned to the point where you don't have to micromanage your food intake and energy expenditure, it will happen automatically
You can experiment further with fasting protocols to further improve health
Coaching at this stage is optional and less structured. Maybe a monthly or ad-hoc check-in to help you maintain progress
ESTABLISH
This is the most critical and challenging phase as you adapt to a new healthier way of eating. For most people, many years of a standard high carb diet has created habits and dependencies that can be difficult to overcome.
It is relatively simple to understand the right foods to eat for optimum nutrition and if it were that simple, all you would need from me would be a food list and perhaps some recipes and you would be on your way to a healthier you.
This phase focusses on helping you to choose nutritious foods while working with you at a mental and emotional level to help you to create new habits and help you to heal cravings and addiction to carbohydrates
This phase provides a strong foundation for optimum health and wellbeing by initiating and supporting your transition to ketosis, where your body begins to learn how to use fat for fuel.
This is a whole lifestyle approach that includes nutrition, psychology, stress management, exercise and sleep
EMBED
As your body adjusts to using fat for fuel and creating its own glucose from the protein and fat you consume, rather than relying on ingested carbohydrates. You will start to feel the benefits throughout your body.
You will notice that you are less hungry, less inclined to snack and increasingly choosing healthy foods.
Fat adaptation is a major milestone as your body realises that it has almost infinite supplies of fuel at its disposal for sport, exercise and everyday living and no longer relies on constant eating and grazing.
Your brain and gut are also healing, particularly your appetite and satiety regulation. Your body set weight is beginning to optimise - If weight loss is a goal you will start to see visible results, particularly in the reduction of any inflammatory visceral fat around the waist.
This phase focuses on further refining your health and nutrition goals, and introducing fasting as an additional nutritional tool for health and wellbeing
ABOUT
I have always been fascinated by the workings of the human body, particularly how our bodies support sport and exercise. Having completed a Sport Science degree I studied Sports Nutrition with the IOC in conjunction with a technology career that included working on the London 2012 Olympic Games and consulting with the IOC in Lausanne
Despite everything I had learned in Sport Science and Sports Nutrition, two questions plagued me, firstly, if carbohydrates are so essential to sports nutrition (this was the basis of all sports nutrition strategies), why are our bodies so poorly designed that we can only store a finite amount of fuel in our body and must rely on continuous carbohydrate ingestion to maintain performance? Secondly, why, despite following accepted nutrition advice were so many people (myself included) struggling to maintain a healthy body weight and increasingly at risk of metabolic disease? Even elite athletes?
This led me on a journey of successful experimentation with a low carb, high fat nutrition lifestyle and the desire to understand more of the science underpinning it. Initially, I was concerned that switching to meat, eggs and saturated fat and removing many fruits and vegetables, an approach so contrary to accepted advice, would put me and my family at risk of serious illness
As I studied more with the Nutrition Network, I understood that this is how we are supposed to eat, this is how our bodies have evolved to extract maximum nutrition from our food. Carbohydrates are neither essential nor healthy. Any glucose we need to support brain function is generated internally from protein and fat.
In 2023 I became a Nutrition Network Certified Coach Practitioner after extensive study with some of the brightest and best in the Low Carb Nutrition space and I understand more than ever that nutrition is one very important piece of the jigsaw, but true health transformation requires attention to psychology, mental health, exercise, stress management and lifestyle to implement and endure.
This metabolic nutrition coaching programme brings together the latest low carb research and science to help you transform your nutrition and health for a total body and mind transformation.
